Hamley Books is pleased to announce today the collaboration with Dutch author Sophia Drenth. Sophia (1971) lives in Amsterdam's canal district and is the author of the wildly popular Blood Laws series, a fantasy series with which she is enjoying considerable success.
For as long as Sophia can remember, she has devoured adventures of a fantastic and/or historical nature. The reading bug struck quite late, when she was forced to stay at home from the age of sixteen during a prolonged period of illness. Not much later the urge arose to take up the pen herself.
After many years of writing, publishing, winning awards and a game of musical chairs with interested publishers, she unfortunately did not succeed in finding a home for her writing. It was with a heavy heart that she decided to hang up her writing, but blood is thicker than water, and so the Blood Laws series was born.
The series grew into a phenomenon thanks to an immense fan base and won several awards, including twice the Bastard Fantasy Award and also twice an Indie Award. In addition to her own publications, Sophia also wrote stories for Luitingh-Sijthoff, Quasis Publishers and Dutch Venture Publishing, among others.
After 1000 Nights won the jury prize at The Indie Awards for best book 2019, where Sandra was one of the judges, Sophia made the bold move and approached her about Blood Laws, but in the end it was not that series that will end up at Hamley Books. After several conversations, and the discovery that Sophia is also very good at youth stories, Sophia was given a proposal around a new series of horror youth books. The first of these will be published in 2021.
