Blackout
Part two of the exciting three-part Rémi series. Rémi's story continues.

What do you do when the future is suddenly at your doorstep? What do you do when your house suddenly explodes? When you find yourself in a new world overnight? When you have the opportunity to learn amazing things, but no one tells you the truth about who you are and what you are capable of?
Rémi has had enough of riddles, half explanations and lame excuses. He sets out to find out who he is. And why. Rémi has felt different from others all his life. His parents are hiding something from him, but he can't figure out what.Â
Rémi wants to know who he is and sets out to find his true identity. But just as he is about to find answers, there is that bang. His house explodes. Rémi has no choice but to grab the hand extended to him from the darkness. He finds himself in the mysterious Creodrome, an institution where science is ahead of its time. Technology feels like magic. Robots are amazingly similar to humans.Â
Everything the teenager once dreamed about is a reality here. Rémi is overwhelmed by fantastic technology and he meets young people who become friends for life. For the first time, he feels at home. Until his past catches up with him again and Rémi realizes he is still in grave danger.

The book looks great with hard cover and beautiful cover that keeps you looking at it. Fine writing style, no long, complicated sentences. Short chapters.
The start of the story caught me off guard and I didn't quite get it, snowy landscape and yet green grass again. Took me a while to realize that Rémi was playing a computer game. Then I was completely swept along with him in his search for the truth. I found it to be a mix of "Under The Dome" and "Dizzy Heights" by Katherine McGee. Living under a protective dome but having highly advanced technical gadgets like lenses. One can only hope that lenses will not exist in the future. Done with our privacy. I enjoyed Upgrade immensely and look forward to part 2! Am curious to see how Rémi and Emma's adventure will continue.
I am very surprised by this book and especially since it is Lara's debut and this is already a very strong book. So I definitely recommend it if you like YA books with a sci-fi/futuristic edge. I gave the book 4 stars and am looking forward to part 2
Ideal first introduction to futuristic YA
The name Lara Reims may not immediately ring a bell, but that is sure to change. With her debut Upgrade, she fills a gaping void in the Dutch-language Young Adult market. Upgrade undoubtedly fits into the ranks of futuristic, dystopian stories.arcraft. With its smooth storyline and lively narrative style, Upgrade is a book that will appeal to a lot of young people taking their first steps into the Young Adult market. The storylines are not overly complicated, but manage to grab you as a reader. The story is bursting with action, but also has some touching and funny moments. In addition, Upgrade mostly revolves around futuristic developments. A subject that can quickly turn into implausible situations, but even here Reims succeeds in not making the developments in the Creadroom too far-fetched. Upgrade is highly recommended for fans of futuristic stories and dystopian novels. An ideal bridge between middle grade and young adult. A book that deserves as much hype as its better-known English-language counterparts.
Successful conclusion to a futuristic young adult trilogy
The three volumes of this series, like many other books published by Hamley Books, appeared in a beautiful hardcover edition. The design is remarkably mindful of the fact that this is a series. In terms of color and illustrations, the three books fit together like a glove, making them a real eye-catcher in any bookcase. You will never get rid of this series! This trilogy is highly recommended, and as far as I'm concerned it should be made available on the big screen. The series would also not be out of place as a TV series. However, it is recommended to read the three books in quick succession, starting from the first part. If you do not, it is still quite difficult to follow the story well and smoothly. Fortunately, the author does occasionally look back to the beginning of the story in both volume 2 and this final volume. Home is a powerful conclusion to a spectacular Young Adult series.

As in the two previously published volumes (Upgrade and Black-Out), this time too the leading role is laid down for Rémi. A boy who seems to have found his new home in the Creodrome. An idealistic place full of state-of-the-art technology, smart robots and new medical gadgets. Rémi has lost a close friend and is struggling with his grief. He is also frequently confronted with his past again and in danger of losing Emma. Yet he is expected to pass his exam and his role in the Creadroom seems bigger than ever. Can he handle all the pressure?
This trilogy is seriously recommended and, as far as I am concerned, should be allowed to appear on the big screen. The series would also not be out of place as a TV series. The author of this book series is Dutch-born Lara Reims. She traded our little chilly country for the capital of Romania. There in Bucharest, she wrote the fictional adventures about Rémi and his girlfriend Emma. Her books read easily. She has an evocative writing style. In addition, Lara seems to be able to tap from an infinite source of imagination which she knows how to work out in her stories.
In this final volume Home, the characters come out even better and everything falls into place. All in all, a more than successful trilogy! Home is a powerful conclusion to a spectacular Young Adult series. 4.5 stars.
Lara Reims writes overlooking Bucharest, where she went to live in 2019. Before that, she lived in Paris for many years. Ten years ago she moved from Amsterdam to France and then so to Romania, where she now lives, reads and writes.
