Lauren is a Flemish nurse at Intensive Care. So she knows better than anyone what it's like to be under pressure. 

To deal with stress, Lauren found her outlet in writing. In English, that is. 

She loves to read and has been reading books in English since she was 13 because as a teenager she loved Rick Riordan's books and that series was then only available in English. As a result, her English is very good, good enough to pen an English-language book herself. 

Her debut, A Curse of Crows was immediately widely picked up and her first printing is currently flying over the counters.

Lauren behind the scenes

  • Writing is a hobby I enjoy immensely, including brainstorming for ideas. Inspiration often pops up at the most unexpected times and places, e.g. last night on my way home from work. I've also had a 'eureka' moment once while washing a patient. I enjoy the writing itself immensely, but finding and picking up the little light bulbs to puzzle it all together is what I find most enjoyable, especially those 'eureka' moments!
  • A Curse of Crows and Serpents is not the only fantasy series swirling through my head, there are plenty of other ideas that even have outlines and titles already 😉
  • The world, mythology and characters of A Curse of Crows and Serpents are so complex and extensive that I am genuinely amazed that I can remember everything perfectly and everything has an ordered place in my head. But don't ask me what I ate for dinner yesterday, that's too difficult hahaha.
  • I can't deal with chaotic or disordered workspaces; while studying, at work, my bedroom, etc. But the folders on my PC with my ideas, outlines, etc. in them? That is pure, colorful and creative chaos.
  • If someone wants to bribe me: latte macchiato with caramel and cinnamon rolls. Then I'll do anything.
