Azerty, what a debut in the thriller world. I had already read her 2nd book Murder Game which I thought was top notch but Azerty is thus her debut and what a debut it is! Throughout Marijn's story you are constantly put on a different suspect so you eventually begin to doubt yourself. I literally felt Marijn's pain coursing through my blood. And then the ending wow this one I didn't see coming at all. Highly recommended!
This was another one: a book you have to let sink in for a while. What a story. The characters are well developed giving you a complete picture of what these people are like.
The underlying relationships are also well portrayed and when the first bomb explodes, so are the first suspicions. But is everyone really who we think they are or is there more behind it.
The tension builds and all the ends seem to come together, but a plot twist ensures that we can no longer trust anyone. Sandra shows another clever piece of writing, where we can pick up our thriller hearts.
Azerty is exciting, mysterious and grabs you by the throat.
If you are looking for a thriller full of gruesome and violent events, Azerty is not the thriller for you! In fact, Azerty is a masterful yet subtle thriller that is incredibly well constructed. A thriller that slowly gets under your skin and you can't put it down.At a certain point, the tension begins to rise in the book because all sorts of strange things are happening in and around the castle.
With Azerty, Sandra J. Paul has certainly picked a good thriller setting. A creepy castle, an old typewriter, family tensions, ... Ideal to give the book a dark and paranormal character. That the author has an eye for detail is really an added value in this finely crafted book. We meet many characters, but none of them turn out to be unimportant. Everything is nicely connected and that makes you as a reader stay in suspense until the last pages. The plot is very surprising to say the least, highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy a thriller from time to time. Despite my lingering sickness over the last few weeks I read this book very quickly, it really kept me enthralled until the last page!
In this psychological thriller, author Sandra J. Paul drags you into the story with incredible ease. She proves with Azerty to have a pleasant writing style and knows how to deepen characters, so that as a reader you automatically empathize with them. The somewhat bizarre story mainly revolves around the unfortunate Marijn. A boy who suffers a severe trauma at the age of eight because he is kidnapped by a confused woman. Fortunately, he has a strong personality and manages to grow up into an independent man despite this unpleasant incident. He does prefer to live as a hermit. That is how he feels most comfortable. Until he meets Louise. She manages to win his heart. When it turns out that he is also the heir to a real castle, his luck seems unstoppable. Will he finally be able to leave all his misery behind him?
The above description would be more than enough for a good running story. However, Sandra J. Paul apparently possesses an inexhaustible portion of imagination. Consequently, much more happens in this entertaining thriller. With Azerty, she manages to surprise you again and again with original twists and turns. Just when you think you know what the story will bring you, another unforeseen twist comes along and you have to completely revise your thinking.
Azerty is more than a thriller, it reads just as well as a detective or a family drama. After reading the first part of the story that is entirely about the kidnapping of Marijn, the book takes such a huge turn that at first glance it seems, as if you are suddenly reading a completely different book. But nothing could be further from the truth. Azerty contains a well-thought-out story, full of quirky characters, each of whom has a large part to play in the whole. Of some, their role only becomes clear at the end of the story, but in the end everything falls into place and the circle is complete. Cleverly conceived and cleverly written. Content very strong. I would love to read more by this author. Highly recommended!
A rock-solid psychological thriller. She does it again, Sandra J. Paul is absolutely a rock. A book you will definitely re-read, a book that could/should definitely become a mini-series or movie. A book you will cherish on your bookshelf thanks to the cover. Highly recommended for anyone who likes to read thriller.
